Bayero University, Kano, has conferred a prestigious award on Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo in recognition of his outstanding scholarly contributions, particularly his role in translating and preserving the intellectual legacy of the renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi.
The honor celebrates Dr. Jalo’s decades-long commitment to making Sheikh Gumi’s works more accessible to a wider audience through Arabic translation and scholarly adaptation. Among his most notable achievements is the translation of Manufata into Arabic under the title موقفي (My Position). He also transformed Al-Aqidatus Sahiha into a poetic format, a thoughtful effort aimed at simplifying memorization for students of Islamic knowledge.
In its citation, the University described Dr. Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo as one of Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi’s most brilliant and dedicated students. During the lifetime of the late Sheikh, Dr. Jalo authored a book on the jurisprudential ruling concerning the raising of hands after the Imam in prayer. The manuscript was personally reviewed by Sheikh Gumi, who approved its publication and global circulation, while also commending Dr. Jalo for his scholarly rigor and dedication.
Beyond this work, Dr. Jalo has produced a substantial body of writings centered on the life, thought, and teachings of Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi. These contributions span books, academic seminars, and Friday sermons, all aimed at sustaining and expanding the reach of his teacher’s intellectual and religious heritage.
It was in recognition of these sustained efforts that Bayero University selected Dr. Ibrahim Jalo Jalingo for this honor—acknowledging his service to knowledge, scholarship, and the global dissemination of Sheikh Gumi’s teachings. The award ceremony took place on 26 January 2026 at a scholarly gathering organized by the CICID Centre of the University.
As the University community celebrates this achievement, prayers were offered for Allah’s mercy upon Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, blessings upon his descendants, and continued goodness and success for Bayero University, Kano.
